Going to be teaching myself to use Unreal 3 and I will be using this house to make a scene. Just wanted to post a marmoset render before I start teaching myself to use UE3.

This is the ramshackle house of Sprigwick the stoat. He's a character I came up with a while ago as an outlet for my more "steampunk" ideas.

Textures at 2048x2048.
~4050 triangles.

Hey love this, I want to live there. But the oars in the front are too short. ( jk ) Lol ;)

DAMMIT, I should have made the two supports for the front deck out of old oars... Good eye there Tom.

You do so much with so few polygons! I like the colors, and the textures are fitting.

Thank you very much! I love low-poly and medium-poly work because I feel it gives a certain style to things. Also, this project was my way of practicing making wood textures in Zbrush.

This looks pretty awesome :D
I've always wondered what the unreal engine could do. Is it difficult to learn how to use?

It shouldn't be as difficult as I'm finding it. I wish there was a more comprehensive, artist-centric "startup" guide for the engine because as it stands now, I had to wade through ten web pages to find a paragraph about the file format UE3 can import from Maya.

Then I had to find a completely separate page in a separate area of the manual telling me how to import, and that was actually outdated.

Oh man, that sounds extremely difficult. I wish someone would make a startup guild like that.
I'm trying to get into 3D design and everything and I was hoping that UE3 would be a good place to start.

honestly, best place to start is with Blender and Unity3D (a game engine). Both of them are free and Unity is used for A LOT of new games coming out, especially mobile ones.

And yeah, it's odd. I've worked with several other engines in the past (Cry, Unity, etc) that all had artist guides and startup guides. I guess since UE3 is just so much more powerful than most engines it puts a lot more out front for you to see.

That sounds good. Thanks for the tip. I will definitely give those a try ^_^

And yeah, that makes sense :D
