Tangra - Home of the Mercenis

Tangra is, by all astronomical terms, a tiny planet. With a radius of barely over 3,600Km, most of it's surface is heavily urbanized on multiple levels with only a few natural preserves left. It's oceans are polluted with the runoff of hundreds of years of industry and it's surface streets littered with the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the sick. In great networks of towers rising miles above the planet's surface, the wealthy and elite enjoy a life above the clouds, never needing to interact with the huddled masses below.

Because of it's crushing poverty, the surface areas are dominated either by rival gangs or the Mercenis military order, a sort of "police" force that exports universal law and security, and in return establishes new trade routes and colonies across the universe. Despite the Mercenis being the wealthiest organization in the neighboring star systems, they built their principal academy and headquarters on the surface streets of Tangra, in hopes of inspiring it's home world's populace and offering them a way out of misery.

The Mercenis do not recognize any authority or influence from "the Heights", the inhabitants of the towers piercing Tangra's skyline.
