The Almighty Bit by tidalkraken The Almighty Bit by tidalkraken
I hadn't seen anyone design or draw the Bit yet, from MLP FIM, so I figured I'd take a shot at designing it!

Words on the back of the coin are: Prosperitas, Diligo, Parilitas. Latin for "Prosperity, Love, Equality"

It appears as though you didn't sell all of your coins in the fundraiser, any left over that I could purchase?

That's a somewhat accurate statement, but it's pretty lean. I have about 50 or so left of the thousands that got made, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.

Ah, well if you do consider selling them, I'd be up for buying 1 or 2.

How much would it cost to make something like this?

I do not divulge my production costs, and if you somehow manage to find my manufacturer's site it's still more than what's listed because of certain extras (use of a 3D file as a base, die setup fees, 3D images instead of just raised 2d "stamps")

This particular image is just a 3D digital render, but I have had them made in real life.

They've already been made. High-grade zinc composite with a mirror gold finish. Nothing cheap about them.

cheaper then solid gold

That's going to be for an undecided charity at a later date. 1oz solid gold.

dude, even when they used gold coins in the regular moneyflow they never used it in these sizes. A ducat was only 7,5 gram.

Well this isn't a historical coin. Theoretically, I could melt an entire bouillon into a coin and still call it currency.

Perhaps gold plated silver or something. I don't know, I want it to be valuable and unique.

Looks awesome, but we Do see the face of the bit for a few seconds in one of the episodes, it has a horseshoe on it... seriously though, these look very impressive.

well, i'm still figuring out the manufacturing process apparently since Kickstarter failed to deliver. At the very least you'll be able to order one off of shapeways in either matte or shiny gold!

You're only the second person to do this,as far as I know. There's one person on ebay who does them, but a more primitive, almost Celtic bit.
This is very cool and very modern looking, and nicer than some real ones out there.

Intersting, and nicely done!

I wonder how difficult it would be to try carving this in wax sans CNC mill? And would I really want to try? Hmmmm...... Of course, that would also depend on how large they're supposed to be. ^__^

Good luck with production! :D

[link] one of the top two industry standard 3D animation / modeling / VFX packages around. Retardedly expensive but very complete.

However, believe it or not, Blender has some functions that not even Maya has (video editing, image compositing, better sculpting mode, etc). I'd heavily recommend that aspiring 3D artists learn Blender. Maya as well, but it's a different animal.
